The Oostvaarder 1040 is a cutter rigged motorsailer with a steel chine hull and long keel. The Oostvaarder 1040 sails very well, both under sail and on the engine. The Mitsubishi 4-cylinder diesel engine was newly installed in 2017. Both the genoa and the cutter sail are roller reef and can be operated from the cockpit with four self-tailing winches. The mainsail is hoisted at the mast, with a grab rail at the mast base for support. The aluminum mast is equipped with steps. The gangway is wide and provides free passage past the wheelhouse and roof. The high foot rail and bulwark provide safety for the crew and prevents water coming over. On the foredeck there is an electric anchor windlass with foot control. Behind the robust wheelhouse is a sheltered cockpit with steering wheel. Navigation equipment and bow thruster controls are located at the helm. While sailing, the view from the raised bench on the pushpit is optimal. In addition to the engine, the current owners have renewed various parts, such as a complete navigation package, a set of batteries, solar panel, hot air heating, Lazybag for the mainsail, headsails fitted with UV strips, etc. The underwater hull was also blasted in 2017 and several layers of Hempel Provide 2-component epoxy primer have been applied.
Interior: In the wheelhouse there is a second helm position, a sofa, a wooden table and bench. At the helm there is a switch panel, GPS chart plotter and VHF radio. The table and wooden bench can be folded up for more space. The windows have aluminum frames, two of which can be opened. In the cabin there is a settee on the starboard side, which can also be used as a berth. Opposite is the galley with gimballed stove, sink and refrigerator. A boiler provides hot running water for the galley, heads and outdoor shower. Various deck hatches and opening portholes provide ventilation. In the private front hut there is a spacious double bed, with a cupboard and shelves for storing clothes. Between the cabin and the front hut there is a heads with toilet and the sink can slide away after use. A waste water tank is also installed.
